Table tennis stars converge in Kuching this weekend

KUCHING: Kuching table tennis fans are in for a big treat as a galaxy of local and international stars from 26 teams will compete in the first major tournament in the city this year, the Telanai 16 Table Tennis Championship at Extreme Table Tennis Professional Centre, Jalan Petanak this weekend.

Participating teams are Telanai 16, Extreme, TTS Super Stars, TTS All Stars, TTS Junior Stars, PJ Union, Kelab Gian Seng Kuching, ETTA Penang, Borneo Starcruise, KRB (Red), KRB (Blue), KRB (Green), Kuching Elite Ping Pong Training Centre (Purple), Kuching Elite Ping Pong Training Centre (Red), MNPE Labuan, Stedy Bro 1, Stedy Bro 2, Stedy Bro 3, PERPIB A, PERPIB B, WIB, RMAF Table Tennis, Hunter, Eagle, Gold Medal Sports TDG and Serian Division Table Tennis Association.

The star-studded field include 2012 Paralympic men’s singles second runner-up David Jacobs, ex-Indonesia national champion Ismu Harinto and his compatriots Yulius, Ragil and Yusuf, last year’s Malaysia Open men’s and women’s singles champions Leong Chee Fung and Alice Chang Li Sian, former national champion Shakirin Ibrahim, Muhamad Asraf Haiqal, Thomas Tay, Kho Mao Sheng, Mohamad Syazwan, Brandon Fong, Karen Lyne Dick, Sam Yuk Siong and evergreen veteran paddler Ling Tiing Sik.

This championship is organised by Extreme Table Tennis Professional Centre and sponsored by Telanai 16 Lodge of Brunei.

Each team shall consist of a minimum of three players and a maximum of five players and the competition will follow the international table tennis rules and regulations.
