KUCHING: A dog owner is devastated that she could not get an answer on the status of her dog after the pet was captured by the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) on Wednesday.

Queennie Cheng said she had no idea how her dog got out of the house but she was certain that she had kept her dog inside the compound before she left home that day.

She admitted that she was to blame when her dog was outside the gate, but this, she said should not be the reason to keep her in the dark as far as the status of the dog was concerned.

“I don’t even know whether my dog is dead or alive. I want to know the condition of my dog. Rumours say that my dog is dead but the authorities are not telling me anything,” she said in a rather worked up tone while not being able to hold back her tears at a news conference in the presence of Stampin MP Julian Tan today.

Cheng said her dog was registered with MPP and had been wearing a plate all along.

She could not comprehend why MPP cannot tell her the status of her dog.

She said similar enquiries made at the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) in Muara Tuang also led her to nowhere.

“I’d like to know where my dog is. If my dog is indeed put to sleep, let me know. I was told that dog owners have 48 hours to claim their dogs if captured by the local councils.

“In this case, where is my 48 hours? Where is my dog? If I’m not allowed to see my dog, at least tell me an answer, even if my dog is dead. Ever since my dog was captured at 11.32am on Wednesday, no one from either MPP or DVS contacted me,” she wept.

Cheng said criticism on social media also hurt her as she explained that her dog was not what those comments had alleged.

“I bought my dog when it was still a puppy from a pet shop in March 2016. My dog was not banned and I even take good care by bringing my dog to an animal clinic regularly,” she said, showing the pet health record card as evidence.

To a question, Cheng said her dog was seen with a group of other dogs when it escaped on Wednesday morning.

“My dog was seen playing with other dogs. But when a fight broke off, all the dogs dispersed while only my dog and the other dog stayed. I don’t know how my dog killed two dogs as reported in the media,” she added.

She hoped that the authorities would inform her the status of her dog.
