Sabu: Pakatan completes distribution of Sarawak seats

KUALA LUMPUR: The opposition Pakatan Harapan pact has completed the distribution of the 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak among its four component parties for the next general election, it was stated here yesterday.

Mohamad Sabu, president of Parti Amanah Negara, one of the component parties, said the pact was now looking into the distribution of the 25 parliamentary seats in Sabah.

The Pakatan Harapan deputy president did not disclose details of the distribution of the Sarawak seats, but it is learnt that the presidential council of the pact would issue an official statement on the matter. Pakatan Harapan comprises, besides Amanah, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), PKR and DAP.

In the 13th general election in 2013, DAP won five of the 31 parliamentary seats in Sarawak, namely  Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Sarikei, Lanang and Sibu while PKR won Miri.

Also in 2013, the DAP won Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan and the PKR, Penampang, in Sabah.

At its convention in Shah Alam on Jan 7, Pakatan Harapan announced the distribution of parliamentary seats in Peninsular Malaysia among its component parties, with 52 for PPBM, 51 for PKR, 35 for DAP and 27 for Amanah, giving a total of 165. — Bernama
