Two men killed as car, pick-up truck collide head-on

KOTA KINABALU: Two foreign men were killed when the Perodua Bezza car they were travelling in collided head on with a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck at Jalan Kolam, near the Bukit Padang traffic light, here yesterday morning.

Acting city police chief Superintendent George Abd Rakman said a passenger in the car, in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 4.30am accident while the driver died about an hour later at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II.

Police investigation revealed that the pick-up truck was heading to Beverly Hill when it collided with the car at the traffic intersection under the flyover.

The victims were believed to be heading to the state capital from Beverly Hill.

The 34-year-old driver of the pick-up truck only sustained minor injuries and had been detained to facilitate police investigation, he said.

He urged eyewitnesses to contact investigating officer, Inspector Ngang Anak Kalimpot at 017-8083272 or the police hotline at 088-242111.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
