MIRI: Enforcement officers from the Marine Police Force (PPM) and Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) seized a total of 133 logs of protected species worth over RM18,900 during a joint operation in Sungai Maloi, Temala, Baram on Jan 19.

In a press statement yesterday, PPM Fifth Region commander ACP Salehuddin Mat Zaman said three PPM and seven SFC personnel from Miri were dispatched to the area after receiving a tip off from members of the public.

“The team carried out checks at the area and found 133 logs of various sizes and species      without any identification and tax stamping from the Forest Department.

“No machinery or suspects were spotted in the area during the check,” he said.

Salehuddin said all logs were seized under Section 80 of the Forest Ordinance 2015 and handed over to the SFC for further action.

“PPM Fifth Region will continue to combat illegal logging activities in the state with the cooperation from other agencies such as SFC and Forest Department,” Salehuddin said.
