KUCHING: State Democratic Action Party (DAP) Chong Chieng Jen is giving Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang a week’s time to clear his stuff and pass over the baton by Jan 29.

Chong, who is Bandar Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, said it is best for Lo to step down since the latter could not fulfill his obligation by improving traffic congestion in 7th Mile.

At a news conference today, the Opposition leader said his call for Lo’s resignation was a result of Lo’s recent challenge to him.

Of late, Lo said Chong had failed his duty as the assemblyman of Kota Sentosa given that the ‘messy traffic issue’ in Mile 7 already prevailed even before Lo was appointed as MPP chairman and elected as Batu Kitang assemblyman.

Lo even added that Chong should volunteer to have a pay cut since he had not done much for the community in Kota Sentosa.

To this, Chong said he is willing to take up the challenge by taking over the chairmanship from Lo, without getting the salary while Lo can decide for himself whether he wants to continue to be paid.

“Since Lo cannot do his job and has the nerve to push the duty to an assemblyman, I do not mind doing the job for him without getting pay.

“I will make myself available at MPP by 10am next Monday to take over his job. I hope he will be ready to hand over the duty,” pointed out Chong.

He said Lo is given about a week to clear his stuff and tender his resignation to the state government.

He thus hoped that Lo would not hold on to the position while asking others to do his job for him.

Lo has been the MPP chairman since 2010 and was elected as the Batu Kitang assemblyman in May 2016.
