KOTA SAMARAHAN: The people of Samarahan can thank Sarawak’s political stability for the development that they are enjoying now.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, development comes hand in hand with political stability as the government would be able to focus on development instead of other things.

He also attributed the political stability in the state to PBB – Sarawak’s largest political party, which was willing to form a government with other parties under the Barisan Nasional (BN) flag even though PBB was qualified to form its own government.

“We have a formula of our own to make sure that everyone in Sarawak is well taken care of. By sharing power with our partners in BN (other BN component parties), we believe we can develop Sarawak,” he said when launching the PBB Zone 2 meeting at the Kota Samarahan Civic Centre here yesterday.

On a related matter, he reminded the people that the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, when the latter was chief minister, had propounded the ‘Politics of Development’ which had brought about rapid development in the state, particularly in Samarahan.

“Before development came to Samarahan, this area was a rural area which could only be accessed by boat. Nowadays, this area is a developed area and is ever developing with its population also ever-growing,” he said.

An indicator that Samarahan is a developed area is the traffic jam during peak hours, he quipped, adding that was why he was keen to introduce the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system to the area soon.

At the same time, he hoped the people in Samarahan would embrace digital technology especially in agriculture so that they can increase their production and produce better products as well as offer better services.

“For those of you who are involved in agriculture, you try to plant cash crops or fruits that have very high market value such as the rock melon for example with the help of technology,” he advised.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said PBB would remain steadfast in protecting the rights of the state as enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Thus, he said PBB must continue to be strong and remain as the backbone of the state BN.
