Drugs worth RM1.4 million seized in temple raid, 2 held

JOHOR BAHRU: Police arrested two local men and seized various drugs and drug paraphernalia estimated to be worth RM1.4 million in a raid on a temple in Muar, near here last Friday.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the two suspects aged 31 and 41, were arrested when police raided the temple located along Jalan Sulaiman at 4.30pm.

In the raid, he said, police found 13.4445 kilogrammes (kg) of ecstasy powder, 362.30 grammes of ketamine, 299.30g ganja and 53g Syabu.

“Police also found drug paraphernalia including a bottle of acetone, two bottles of spirit, three bottles of colouring, several pill making equipment, two blenders, a microwave oven and two halogen lamps,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Assets worth RM54,000 and RM4,000 in cash were also seized, he added.

Mohd Khalil said preliminary investigations revealed that both the suspects had previous drug-related criminal records and were tested positive for methamphetamine.

“Police are still investigating on the suspects involvement in drug trafficking,” he said adding that drugs were believed to be for the local market.

The two suspects were remanded for seven days until Jan 26 for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. — Bernama
