Nearly 7 tonnes of food supply airlifted to flood victims in Ulu Anap Tatau

BINTULU:  A total of 6,920 kilogrammes of food supply have been airlifted and distributed to 342 flood victims in Nanga Tau, Ulu Anap Tatau.

Tatau District Office on January 19 reported that 17 longhouses, a primary school and a health clinic were affected when the access road to transport the essential goods to Ulu Anap was cut off due to the floods.

A helicopter carrying the supplies was deployed by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and landed safely at Rumah Dilang Gindang, Nanga Setengi, Ulu Anap in Tatau District on Saturday.

A total of 40 packets of rice and 40 packets of other essential goods, weighing 800kg, were distributed to the flood victims in the area.

The second and third deliveries involved the transportation of essential goods weighing 1,200kg and 1,320kg respectively.

Bintulu Bomba zone chief Unjar Lum, Tatau station chief Nazari Harun, Bintulu zone operation officer Irwin Abidin, officers from Bintulu Welfare Department, police and Tatau District Office were among those who joined the relief operations.

Bintulu Bomba station chief Mohamad Meramit said around 16 personnel from Tatau fire station led by Joseph Bilon were also involved in the relief operations.

He said on the first day of operation on Saturday, a Bomba helicopter carrying food supplies arrived at Nanga Tau at 3pm.

Mohamad said the food supplies delivery was carried out in three trips from Tatau Sports Centre.

A total of 800 kg of essential food items were transported in the first trip followed by 1,400 kg each in the second and third trip.

“All the essential goods were distributed to 17 longhouses in the area involving 342 people in total,” said Mohamad.
