KUCHING: Six mosques and suraus costing a total of RM20million will be built in the Santubong parliamentary constituency soon.

According to Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, fund for each of the project has been allocated and land acquisition

issues have been settled. The projects are in tendering process, he said.

“The six mosques and surau are located at Kampung Salak, Kampung Stoh, Kampung Sepakat Jaya, Kampung Kudi, Taman Mesra and Kampung Semilang Beradek involving a total cost of RM20 million,” said Wan Junaidi who is also Santubong MP.

He said this at the earth breaking ceremony for a surau at Kuching Family Park at Jalan Sultan Tengah, here yesterday.

According to Wan Junaidi, there might be some escalating costs but he will be looking at how to ensure funds are enough to kick start the projects.

“I hope that by May all six projects can be handed over to the contractors so the people will not have to wait any longer,” said Wan Junaidi.

Earlier at the event, Wan Junaidi reminded the contractor for the Kuching Family Park surau to complete the work on time.

“Follow the timeframe as stated in the contract and do not cut corners in construction process as we want quality workmanship,” he said.

He lauded the efforts of the Kuching Family Park surau committee who worked hard to raise fund for the surau and hoped that upon completion, the surau will not just be a place for prayers but also for other religious activities.
