Five schools vie for Sarikei basketball honours

SARIKEI: Seventeen teams from five secondary schools participated in the Sarikei Division Schools Sports Council Basketball Championships held at Taman Susur Jambu Basketball Stadium here recently.

Seven teams played in the Under-18 Girl’s event while five each joined the U-18 Boy’s and U-15 Boy’s categories.

SMK Kai Chung  emerged as U-18 boy’s champion while SMK St Anthony and SMK Tinggi were second and third respectively.

In the U-18 girl’s category, SMK Tinggi lifted the title while SMK Meradong and SMK St. Anthony finished second and third.

The U-15 boy’s title went to SMK St. Anthony while SMK Tinggi and SMK Tong Hua settled for second and third places respectively.

A political secretary to the Chief Minister, Teng Ung Woo, officiated at the closing ceremony.

Among those present were Matheus Akun of Sarikei District Education Office SMK St. Anthony principal Vincent Liong who was the tournament’s organising chairman.
