MIRI: Miri archers bagged four gold, four silver and eight bronze medals at the Mukah Open on Jan 20.

They topped the medal table in the field of 13 teams from Mukah, Sibu, Dalat, Bintulu  and Miri.

The gold medalists were Nicole Koh and Nathan Tang (Under-12), Lee Siaw Ying (U-15) and her elder sister Lee Siaw Jing (Open category).

Other medalists were AkidIman, Jordan Chew, Thang Lieh Jiun, Pui Jer Min, Josiah Hong and Wong Jin Wei.

“We are very pleased with the outcome – winning four out of six events contested and a total of 16 medals,” said Miri Archery Association (MAA) coach David Ting.

It was a good first outing for 2018 as the archers prepare for the Sarawak Open to be held in Sibu from March 16-20.

Led by the Lee sisters, who were gold medalists at the recent SukSar (Sukan Sarawak), they are training hard for at least four upcoming competitions in Sarawak this year.

“We might be sending more archers, to bring more glories for Miri and perhaps for Sarawak and Malaysia as we might consider competing in the Thailand Princess Cup scheduled in June this year. Last year we won two gold medals in the Princes Cup,” Ting added. They are currently training six days a week.
