KUCHING: Four-time world champion Shalin Zulkipli has commended Amateur (Tenpin) Bowling Association of Sarawak (Abas) for taking the initiative to organise the second phase of the Tenpin Bowling Teachers Instructors Course at Megalanes Sarawak, Batu Kawa from Jan 25-27.

The first female Malaysian bowler to win the World Tenpin Masters in 2001 was in town since Friday to share her experience and knowledge with the teachers, bowlers and fans.

“I hope all the participants will appreciate this course because even in the Semenanjung we do not get to do this as often as Sarawak. It’s not so easy to gather all the teachers for the course,” Shalin told the sundaypost at Megalanes Sarawak yesterday.

She also hoped that the teacher instructors will learn to love the game so that they can pass on the passion to their students.

“If they are involved in sports, they will learn to become better students and better people,” she added.

Shalin is also very impressed by the state’s development programme which has produced numerous world and national champions.

“Sarawak has very good coaches, facilities and a very good development programme ever since I was in the sport 20 years ago,” she said.

Meanwhile, the 122 participants with the majority of them teachers from 52 schools, received their certificates from SSC chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee who closed the event yesterday.

Course conductors for this event were Abas certified coaches Robert Lu, Jackson Ting, Angelo Koay and Bong Kihow.

SSC corporation coach for youth development centre Jerusha Chan presented on the benefits of warming up exercises.

Another presenter was Dr Pathmanathan Suppiah who spoke on long-term athletes’ development and education through sports while skill drills and the physical game were conducted by Khairul Faizi Yusop and Shalin.
