KUCHING: Five athletes out of 10 candidates who turned up for the first selection in Miri last Saturday made it to the second selection to be held in Kuching for the state squad for the Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia (KPM) Wushu Championship this year.

Mo Shin Qi, Mok Xiao Yuan, Wilson Teo Key Jue, Beckham Chew Jun Yee and Loh Si Cheng were selected in the trial conducted by state MSNS coach Lau Hui Wei.

“I hope they can get selected to the state team for the challenge in the KPM championship this year.

“We are actively carrying out the development programme in the schools in Miri and hope that those selected to the state team will one day be like SEA Games and World Wushu Championship gold medallist Loh Jack Chang,” said Kelab Zhong Hua Piasau Miri secretary Jong Chin Wei.

The club coaches conduct wushu classes in SJK Chung Hua Miri, SJK Chung San, SJK North, SJK Chung Hua Krokop and SMK Chung Hua Miri.

“We are hoping to recruit more members this year.

“The training sessions will commence from Feb 2 onwards,” he said.

Those parents interested in sending their children to the training centre can call Jong at 016-5764587.
