Miri to host 45th Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship

MIRI: Miri will host the 45th Sarawak Age Group Swimming Championship at Miri Public Swimming Pool from Feb 2 to 4.

It is the first time that Miri Division Amateur Swimming Association (Masa) is tasked by Amateur Swimming Association Sarawak (Asas) to organise the annual event which will select state swimmers for the National Age Group Championship to be held in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur from March 15 to 18.

According to Masa president Rofiza Morshidi, the participating teams will include Bintulu Amateur Swimming Association (Basa) with 19 swimmers, Kota Samarahan Amateur Swimming Association (Kotas) with 39, Kuching Amateur Swimming Association (Kasa) with 64, Masa with 64, Sibu Amateur Swimming Association (Sasa) with 37 and Limbang Amateur Swimming Association (Lasa) with 58.

The total of 281 swimmers (175 boys and 106 girls) will compete in five age groups: A (15-17 years), B (13-14), C (11-12), D (9-10) and E (8 and below).

The three-day event will also identify and honour the most outstanding swimmers (boy and girl) for each age group.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Senadin assemblyman Datuk Lee Kim Shin is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony on Feb 3 (Saturday) at 10am.
