Pakistani trader fined RM10,000, jailed for bribing policeman

KUALA TERENGGANU: A Pakistani carpet and textile trader was sentenced to a month jail and fined RM10,000 by the Sessions Court here yesterday for offering a RM200 bribe to a policeman.

Judge Mohd Haldar Abd Aziz handed down the sentence on Zeb Ghulab, 24, who pleaded guilty to the charge. He was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest, which was last Jan 8.

Zeb was charged with offering the bribe to Lance Corporal Sebri Shukri as an inducement for the policeman to not take action against him for driving without a valid driving licence at about 8.30 pm in Kijal, Kemaman, last Jan 8. He paid the fine.

Deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Muhammad Zulfadli Mohd Nawawi prosecuted, while Zeb was represented by lawyer Mohd  Shahir Mat Jusoh. — Bernama
