Teenager pleads not guilty to drug abuse charge

MIRI: A teenager pleaded not guilty in a magistrate’s court  here yesterday to a drug abuse charge.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa thus set Feb 19 for case management. She also ordered that the accused be released on RM2,000-bail with a local surety.

Khairul Rizwan Mazlan, 18, from Kampung Haji Wahid here is charged with using a 11-nor-delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol-9-carboxyhc acid drug that is contained in the First Schedule of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (Act 234) by way of inserting the drug into his own body

without permission from the authorities.

He allegedly committed the offence at 4.35am on July 24, 2017 at the District Police Narcotics Criminal premises here.

The offence is framed under Section 15 (1) (a) of DDA 1952 and the sentencing under Section 15 of the same Act. The accused is liable to a maximum fine of RM5,000 or a two-year jail on conviction, and must be supervised by an officer as defined under Section 2 of the Drug Dependent (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 for a term not less than two years and not exceeding three years under Section 38B of DDA 1952.
