KUCHING: A freelance hairdresser claimed trial in the Sessions Court here yesterday to voluntarily causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation on her sister.

Dora Sim Siaw Sie appeared before Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad, who released her on RM8,000 bail in two sureties who are gainfully employed with a fixed income and residing here.  Dayang Ellyn also ordered Sim not to communicate in any manner whatsoever with her sister.

Under the first charge, Sim allegedly broke her 28-year-old sister’s nose around 8.30am on Jan 25 at a Jalan Keretapi bakery. The charge comes under Section 325 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 14 years in prison and a fine.

Under the second charge, she allegedly threatened to kill her sister at the same time, place and venue. The charge comes under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to seven years in prison, or a fine, or both.

Her lawyer Abdul Rahman Mohd Hazmi had earlier requested a low bail amount saying that Sim works freelance and had lost many customers since she was placed under remand.

Abdul Rahman added that her income was also affected by news of the case going viral on social media. DPP Haresh Prakash prosecuted.
