MIRI: The Kuching Amateur Swimming Association (Kasa) 2010 are looking for a top three finish in the 45th Sarawak Age Group (SAG) Swimming Championship at Miri Public Swimming Pool from Feb 2 to 4.

They are fielding big team of 64 swimmers including 24 girls this year in the bid to better their second place finish in the annual state meet held at the Sarawak Aquatic Centre last February.

“Kasa 2010 are able to send a bigger group of swimmers for this year’s SAG as it has been successful in attracting new members onto its platform,” said team manager Alexander Ng during the pool testing and practice session at Miri Public Swimming Pool yesterday.

“There is a healthy mix of swimmers in this year’s team, comprising some very good and experienced senior swimmers at each age group category, as well as our younger swimmers, who are here for the experience as well as to see their seniors in action,” he said.

“The goal for each swimmer remains the same, which is to record their personal best times.

“I am confident that our senior swimmers (in each of their respective age group) will do well at this SAG and qualify to represent Sarawak in the upcoming National Age Group Swimming Championship (NAG),” he added.

According to Ng, Kasa 2010’s current committee (2017-2019) under the leadership of Frankie Lau has seen the rekindling in the passion and commitment towards competitive swimming in its current coaching staff and swimmers.

“There has also been more active involvement of parents in building on the foundation established by the past committee.

“Their resilience in continuing to support Kasa 2010 over the past year is also to be commended,” said Ng who added that Kasa 2010 continues to welcome all swimmers residing in Kuching who share the same passion in competitive swimming.

The three-day championship hosted by Miri Amateur Swimming Association (Masa) is aimed at selecting the best swimmers from the various divisions to represent Sarawak in the National Age Group Swimming Championship (NAG) in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur from March 15 to 18 .

Defending champions Kota Samarahan Amateur Swimming Association (Kotas) are only sending 37 swimmers while host Miri also fielding 64 swimmers, Sibu Amateur Swimming Association (Sasa) have 37 swimmers, Bintulu Amateur Swimming Association (Basa) have the smallest team of 19 swimmers and Limbang Amateur Swimming Association (Lasa) have a number of ‘parking’ swimmers in its 58-member team.
