Dr Ting’s defamation suit to be heard in Sessions Court

KUCHING: The High Court here yesterday ordered that the defamation suit filed against Minister of International Trade and E-commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh by Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon over bankruptcy allegations in Australia to be heard in the Sessions Court.

According to lawyer Wong King Wei, representing Dr Ting, Justice Dato’ Yew Jen Kie said it was unlikely the claim made by the plaintiff would exceed RM1million.

The lawsuit by Dr Ting was filed by Messrs King Wei & Co, whereby Wong was named as the first respondent and The Borneo Post Sdn Bhd as second respondent.

Dr Ting had claimed that the allegation was injurious to him and is seeking unspecified damages from the respondents.

He is also seeking for a court order to restrain the respondents from repeating the alleged defamatory statement.
