KUCHING: The hearing on the appeal against the acquittal of three men for the murder of native land rights activist Bill Kayong was adjourned yesterday to April 9.

The adjournment was made after senior federal counsel Mohd Taufik Mohd @ Mohd Yussof notified the Court of Appeal here that the notice of hearing has yet to be served on Datuk Stephen Lee Chee Kiang, one of the accused.

The two other accused, Chin Wui Ching and Lie Chang Loon, were present in court yesterday after they were served with the notice of hearing.

The three men were discharged and acquitted over Bill’s murder on June 6 last year after High Court judge Ravinthran N Paramaguru ruled there was no case for them to answer.

The trial continuation of Mohammad Fitri Pauzi, who is the only accused called to enter his defence over the murder, is pending the outcome of this appeal.

Bill was gunned down at a traffic light intersection in Miri on June 21, 2016.
