MIRI: PKR will field five or six candidates, DAP one or two while Amanah will not field any candidate in northern Sarawak in the upcoming general election.

The seats are Lawas, Limbang, Baram, Miri, Sibuti, Bintulu and Hulu Rejang.

Chairman of Pakatan Harapan (northern region) and Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon said this was agreed upon during a meeting involving PKR, DAP and Amanah yesterday.

“We had a final discussion on the allocation of seats, which is either 6-1 or 5-2 between PKR and DAP. But the final decision will be decided by the top leadership,” Dr Ting told a press conference here yesterday.

Miri MP Dr Teo Yu Keng, state DAP secretary Alan Ling Sie Kiong, DAP Miri youth chief Peter Hii, Amanah Miri chairman Yeo Kian Liong and PH northern Sarawak election committee member Thomas Daniel were among those present at the meeting.

Dr Ting said PH would organise a big gathering or dinner in March to rally public support for the opposition pact.

According to Thomas, Amanah would work very hard to campaign for PH candidates in the seven seats.

“ We don’t care how many multi-cornered fights there will be, we will fight hard to win, “ he said.

Dr Teo, meanwhile, complained about the absence of a heart or brain centre in northern Sarawak, forcing patients with such diseases here to seek treatment in Brunei.

He said there wasn’t even a heart or a brain specialist at hospitals in this part of the state.
