TAWAU: A 19-year-old youth was sentenced to 20 years in jail by the Sessions Court here yesterday for causing death of a 16-year-old boy.
Sessions Court judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud imposed the sentence on Irwanshah bin Sabaruddin who pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code which provides 30 years in prison and can also be fined.
The accused was charged with causing the death of Mohd Ayieruchizamsyah bin Lambang on April 23, 2017 between 5.30pm and 6pm at the Kampung Sentosa playground, North Road.
The accused was handed over to the police by members of the public on April 24 around 10.45am at Kampung Pisang after he was suspected to be involved in the case.
Based on witnesses’ accounts, the victim was punched on the face and hit with a burnt wood twice behind the neck by the accused who became angry when he saw his sister walking with the victim.
The victim who fell to the ground unconscious, was brought to his home in Taman Ambar by the public. The next day when the victim’s mother wanted to wake him up around 7.30am, the victim had already died.
