67 schools, 5 govt clinics closed throughout Sarawak due to floods

KUCHING: A total 67 schools and five government health clinics were closed throughout Sarawak due to floods as of 12pm today.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) secretariat said the closed schools included 11 which were turned into temporary flood evacuation centres for flood victims.

The closure affected 5,812 students and 794 teachers.

The five health clinics closed were at Ulu Teru in Miri, Nanga Taroh (Mukah), Sungai Arip (Sibu), Nanga Tau (Bintulu) and Sangan (Bintulu).

A total 5,679 people from 1,722 families were still being evacuated at 31 evacuation centres as of 12 noon today.

One evacuation centre at Dewan Suarah Mesra Mukah was closed at 8.30am.
