People cross the log bridge in Long Latei, which is on the verge of collapsing due to the bad weather.

MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau has called on a logging company operating in Long Latei, Baram to immediately repair a log bridge in the area which is on the verge of collapsing.

He said continuous heavy rain in the interior has taken a toll on the 10-metre bridge, which crosses Sungai Belanah and plays a vital role in the movement of local communities.

“Folk in Long Latei and 10 other Penan settlements, as well as those living further up in Long Seridan face the possibility of being totally cut off from the outside world if the Sungai Belanah bridge collapses.

“I have received many calls since December last year from the village chief and members of the community, urging the logging company to repair the bridge. I dread to think of the consequences if the bridge collapses,” he said yesterday.
