KUCHING: Three motions can be expected at the 14th Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) convention at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here.

PBB secretary-general Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said delegates at the convention will be expected to deliberate issues pertaining to digital economy, education and Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“Delegates are expected to voice their opinions on digital economy, education and MA63. We have over 320,000 members state-wide who all support our efforts to get back our rights within the context of MA63,” he told a press conference at BCCK yesterday.

Dr Rundi, who is Minister of Utilities, said the state government would continue to discuss and negotiate with Putrajaya to reclaim the state’s rights that were eroded over the years.

He said the process would be done through negotiations and ‘we will be in Malaysia forever’.

“The prime minister is very open about the discussion on MA63 and getting back our rights is the will and wish of the late chief minister (Pehin Sri Adenan Satem) who started the negotiations with the federal government.

“So we will fight for the rights of Sarawak and to do this, we will continue to work out the proper channel to achieve what we want to do for Sarawak,” he added.

On the party’s election, Dr Rundi said the understanding between the Bumiputera and Pesaka wings ‘is very much intact’ although it was not in writing.

He said seven nominations had been received for the four vice-president posts for the Bumiputera wing while there will be no contest for the three vice-president posts for the Pesaka wing.

He said the candidates were Datuk Talib Zulpilip and Datuk Julaihi Narawai, who are incumbents; Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Datu Len Talif Salleh, Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail and Dr Annuar Rapaee.

“So these seven candidates will be vying for the four vice-president posts. It will be a friendly contest as they uphold the strong spirit of comradeship,” added Dr Rundi.

According to him, some veteran PBB members who no longer held any party position still volunteered to help out in this convention.

“I think this augurs well for the party,” he said.
