MIRI: Sarawak Fencing Association (PSLPS) has lined up several programmes in its 2018 calendar of events, aimed at promoting the combat sport in the state.

According to PSLPS chairman Mohammad Tinggal Abdul Hamid, the association is planning to organise the National Fencing Training Coach course, in collaboration with Malaysia Fencing Federation (MFF) and Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS).

He disclosed that the course, expected to be held next month, would focus on school teachers and other interested individuals.

“PSLPS will apply officially to the Sarawak State Sports Council and MFF to determine the date and venue,” said Mohammad Tinggal.

The association will also organise basic fencing clinics in Miri, Sibu and Kuching which will be conducted by MSNS and a coach from Indonesia.

He added that PSLPS would seek cooperation from MSNS to send a team to the National Championship (Junior and Cadet) in Kuala Lumpur on March 16-19,  National Heritage Cup Fencing Tournament in Melaka in July, and 19th Sukma in Perak this September.

PSLPS currently has over 30 athletes under the MSNS development programme based at Sibu Jaya Secondary School.
