Floods: More families returning home

KUCHING: More families in several divisions across the state are returning home after being placed at flood evacuation centres.

According to a press statement from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee secretariat, as of 4pm yesterday, there were no more victims placed at flood evacuation centres in Samarahan Division despite it recording the highest number of victims just a few days ago. Its last flood evacuation centre at Kampung Mang was closed at 9.30am yesterday.

Elsewhere in the state, Bintulu Division currently has the highest number of victims placed at flood evacuation centres with 1,210 victims from 330 families, followed by Sibu Division with 1,163 victims from 397 families.

Serian Division still has 933 victims from 305 families currently seeking refuge at flood evacuation centres while Mukah Division has 114 victims from 46 families, Limbang Division has 136 victims from 39 families and Sarikei Division has eight victims from four families.

The statement also said eight cases of land slides in Kapit, Kuching, Limbang, and Sarikei divisions were reported.
