Man denies allowing illegals in his vehicle

KOTA KINABALU: A man claimed trial at the Sessions Court here yesterday to allowing two illegal immigrants to remain in his vehicle.

Panai Sayong, 54, who appeared before judge Azreena Aziz, was charged under Section 55E of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The indictment provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000 or jail term of up to a year, or both, for each illegal immigrant, upon conviction.

He is accused of allowing two Filipinos, who had no valid documents, to stay in his vehicle at the Immigration post control in Sindumin Sipitang on October 12, 2017.

The court fixed March 8 this year for case management and released Panai on RM5,000 bail with RM2,000 to be deposited in two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

Prosecuting officer from the Immigration Department Hamisah Puteh prosecuted while Panai was not represented.
