New PBB Women pledges commitment to party

KUCHING: Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development  Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah pledges to work hard in ensuring that Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) would remain strong and relevant.

The new PBB Women chief also strives towards the party’s drive to register more new members and voters, maintain unity and also to ensure that PBB members would not cross over to other political parties.

She also acknowledges the big responsibility and the challenges involved, but assures all that she would carry such trust with full commitment.

“We (PBB Women) will work to ensure that PBB remains strong and relevant and at the same time help to maintain unity within the main body, its branches and sub-branches.

“PBB has been a respected party because of its strength and unity – we will continue to maintain this,” she spoke at a press conference in Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday, which hosted the 14th PBB Convention.

Fatimah, who replaced Tan Sri Empiang Jabu as PBB Women chief, pointed out that the number of PBB members as at last December stood at 323, 043 within the main body, 153, 962 in PBB Women, and 36, 039 in PBB Youth.

Adding on, she vowed to carry on the legacy left by Empiang, whom she said had contributed immensely not only to PBB, but also the women in the state.

“She (Empiang) has left very big shoes to fill. Aware that leadership is a responsibility, I will carry this responsibility with commitment and dedication, and continue her legacy,” she said.

Moreover, Fatimah pointed out that PBB Women would strive to enhance women’s role in education, society and economy.

She also expressed her thanks to Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who chose her to contest in Dalat in the 2001 state election, replacing then-assemblyman Tan Sri Affendi Norwawi.
