KUCHING: The Youth wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will employ the ‘Armada’ programme, aimed at reaching out to the young voters ahead of the next parliamentary election.

According to PBB Youth new chief Gerald Rentap Jabu, the move upholds the legacy of the wing’s outgoing chief Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

“The Armada PBB is one of the programmes where the Central PBB Youth leaders go to the ground and meet the grassroots, and also to provide unity to all the ‘Rakan Pemuda’ (Friends of Youths).

“(This programme is) not only for members of PBB youth, but also for youth members from other BN (Barisan Nasional)’s components parties – Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP). It has one objective – to touch the hearts of the grassroots and gain their support, especially during elections,” he said at a press conference in Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here yesterday.

Rentap viewed the Armada PBB as ‘a very good programme’, thanking Fadillah for the idea behind it.

“We can now see some of the other BN component parties also having their own Youth Armada.

“I also think the ‘Yellow Shirts’ have their own ‘Armada’, though I don’t know if I have to claim the rights or not,” he said in jest.

Rentap said PBB Youth would work closely with PBB Women to ensure BN success in the parliamentary polls.

“After this (PBB) convention, we are going to work hard to ensure that PBB and BN, as a whole, register huge victory in Sarawak.

“We in PBB Youth are the frontliners; therefore, we will go first together with PBB Women. We will work together for BN victory,” he said.

New PBB Women chief Dato’ Sri Fatimah Abdullah was also present at the press conference.
