KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will be fully behind Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the 14th general election (GE14).

According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is also PBB president, Najib has done a lot for Sarawak and that Sarawakians should be grateful for it and return the favour.

He also mentioned the approval of Pan Borneo Highway project for Sarawak, the RM1 billion–allocation for the repair and rebuilding of dilapidated schools, and the presentation of RM500 million for better Internet connectivity in the state, as the key things that Najib has done for Sarawak.

“Come the election, we have no option but to support Datuk Seri Najib – we want him to continue to be the prime minister,” he spoke at the 14th PBB Convention in Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday where Najib – also the national Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman – officiated at the opening ceremony, which was witnessed by some 5,000 PBB delegates and members.

Adding on, Abang Johari assured Najib that PBB would take its pledge seriously, saying: “When we vow to support, we abide by our pledge. That is the quality of political leaders in Sarawak.”

Abang Johari also said PBB would strive to deliver a ‘clean-sweep result’ in GE14.

“We are aware that someone wants to be the next prime minister, despite being at the age of 93. But don’t you worry, Datuk Seri Najib – we are fully behind you. And hopefully, we would give you a good report card.”

Abang Johari also reminded all that PBB managed a ‘complete victory’ in the last state election by delivering all the 40 constituencies it contested in.

For the record, BN Sarawak secured 72 out of the 82 seats contested in the election.

“Not only will we continue to fight for BN in the coming election, PBB must also make a clean sweep for all PBB seats. We give strong support to Datuk Seri Najib.”

Abang Johari described the 72 state seats that BN Sarawak delivered in the 2016 state polls as ‘having achieved an A+ result’.

He said should the state BN keep up the good work and deliver even better results in GE14, Sarawak would be at a better position to ask for more benefits and rights from Putrajaya.

“It is like a child asking pocket money from the father. When the child has A+ result, the father gives the pocket money.

“If we could deliver A+ result in the coming election, not only would Datuk Seri Najib give what we ask for, but he would probably ask what more he could help,” Abang Johari pointed out.

Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, who are also PBB deputy presidents, were also in attendance.
