Curtin Malaysia’s location in Borneo is reason enough for it to be the choice destination for students with a bit of ‘wanderlust’.

MIRI: One of the world’s leading higher education web portals has listed Curtin University Malaysia as among universities that provide ‘education in jaw-dropping locations’.

In the article  ‘The Wanderlust List: Education in Jaw-Dropping Locations’, studyinternational.com descibes Curtin Malaysia – formerly known as Curtin University Sarawak Malaysia – as offering students ‘a truly global experience’, in that it also houses students from more than 45 countries as well as top global scholars.

“If location is what you’re after, then this is just the place.

With a sprawling tropical rainforest right on its doorstep, astonishing coral reefs, clear ocean waters and exotic wildlife, it is nothing less than a nature lover’s paradise! And with the campus located in the thriving city of Miri, it’s the perfect point from which to take in this surrounding beauty,” the article says.

Curtin Malaysia stands alongside the portal’s other picks such as the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand; University of Queensland, Australia; and Washington State University Vancouver in Washington, the US.

According to Curtin Malaysia pro vice-chancellor, president and chief executive Prof Jim Mieczakowski, as Curtin University’s largest international campus and hub in Asia, Curtin Malaysia is proud to host over 4,000 international and domestic students enrolled in a wide range of undergraduate and post-graduate courses in engineering and science, business and humanities, as well as in its foundation programmes.

“The world-class education and global experience, coming hand-in-hand with international study are reasons enough to explore a myriad of overseas opportunities. On top of enhancing their employable expertise, students have a choice of a wide range of universities offering their chosen disciplines, presenting a host of exciting options not available in their home countries.

“Our location in Borneo, with its natural attractions, rich cultural heritage on top of all the opportunities for study and adventure, should be a choice destination for students with a bit of wanderlust,” said Mieczakowski.

He said based on the biggest-ever survey on the subject, the ‘QS Global Employer Survey Report’, six out of 10 global employers claimed to give extra credits for international student’s experience, and more than 80 per cent said they would actively seek graduates who had studied overseas.

Moreover, Curtin has an ongoing three-week ‘Curtin’s Asia Study Tour’ mobility programme that allows students from its Perth campus to visit Borneo to broaden their perspectives and learn essential skills in dealing with new and different environments.

Over 200 students from the main campus, mainly from the School of Design and Built Environment, took part in the tour last year.

Curtin Malaysia has also received over 130 other international students on the AsiaBound, International Association of Students of Science, Economy and Commerce (AIESEC) and New Colombo Plan programmes, as well as exchange programmes with partner universities and other mobility activities.

Apart from here, the Curtin University also has campuses in Perth, Singapore and Dubai.

Its ‘One Curtin’ strategy promotes movement of students between campuses for new insights into their areas of studies, and its technologically advanced learning delivery modes provide students with the opportunity to engage with students and staff at other campuses.

Curtin’s strong industry connections, high-impact research and a varied array of innovative courses make it an increasingly a university of choice for prospective students – it earned a five-star overall excellence rating in the QS Stars University Ratings 2017.

In global university rankings, Curtin University ranks in the top one per cent of institutions worldwide in the ‘Academic Ranking of World Universities’ (ARWU) 2017 and rose significantly to 262nd position in the QS World University Ranking (QSWUR) 2017-2018.

Based in Bristol, Sydney and Kuala Lumpur, the portal studyinternational.com provides free, independent help and advice that connects students with a global network of universities.
