EPF puts up a Facebook announcement debunking the fake message.

KUCHING: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) on its official Facebook page debunked a fake Whatsapp message claiming that its system will be down for six months.

Under an announcement concerning the fire at EPF Petaling Jaya branch, a Facebook user named Angie Loo asked EPF to clarify on the Whatsapp message. The page admin stated that it was not true, as it was not from EPF.

Another Facebook user Joshua Siew asked whether withdrawals can still be made during the temporary closure of the PJ branch.  EPF assured that members may still perform withdrawal transaction at any nearest EPF office, and all EPF operations are as usual.

The fake message widely circulating on Whatsapp read: “KWSP system will be down for 6 months due to restoration works caused by mysterious fire. No withdrawals can be made during this period. Sincere apologies for any inconveniences caused.”

The original Facebook post announced that the Petaling Jaya office and branch is temporarily closed until further notice due to a fire at the building.

“The EPF Crisis Response Team is working closely with the Fire and Rescue Department, who will ensure the fire does not spread to any other floors or surrounding areas. As safety of customers and staff is our prime concern, total evacuation of the building has been taken, and office and counter services are closed until further notice.

We would also like to assure members that there has been no compromise to data integrity or members savings in any manner. We will continue to monitor the situation as it develops and will provide an update once the branch is back in operations,” said the announcement, which was issued by the Corporate Affairs Department today.

Members and employers who wish to perform any transactions with EPF are advised to contact or visit the nearest EPF branch.
