Soldiers guard the two drivers who were attempting to smuggle the goods into West Kalimantan.
KUCHING: The Malaysian Armed Forces, through the 11th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment, seized a lorry containing 800 boxes of raw sausages and 280 boxes of balloons meant to be smuggled into West Kalimantan on Monday.
A spokesperson from the First Malaysian Infantry Division said in a statement yesterday that the seizure was made at about 6pm during a patrol of the Am Jagoi Estate (Duyoh-Serikin) border area.
He said the attempted smuggling of the goods was detected after soldiers saw two lorries roughly 1.1 kilometres from the border using an illegal entry heading towards Indonesia.
“The team approached the vehicles for the purpose of inspection and found the said goods.
“Further inspection also revealed that the drivers were Malaysian citizens,” said the spokesperson.
It is said that the goods were without any document or approval from the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
The seized goods and the two lorries are estimated to be worth about RM236,000.
Separately, the 11th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment arrested three Indonesian nationals during a routine patrol of a plantation in Lundu, some 200m from the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
The trio, aged between 20 and 40, was spotted walking through an illegal entry towards West Kalimantan, and found to be without any valid travel documents.
It is learned they were intending to return to their hometown Sambas.
All three individuals were taken to Lundu District Police Headquarters for further action.
