SANDAKAN: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) in Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) is set to be equipped with two new security assets, namely Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) drones and a radar security system that covers from Tawau to Kudat.

ATM Headquarters Secretariat representative, Lt Kot Zahrullail Hidayat, said in a press conference here yesterday that the new assets are expected to be ready for use in March or April this year.

The assets will be added to the existing land, air and water assets of security forces in ESSZone to strengthen the security and safety in the area.

Zahrullail also said that with the cooperation between all the enforcement agencies including ATM, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, marine police, immigration department and customs department in guarding the ESSZone waters, ESSZone has been safe from foreign threats since 2017.

“In 2016 and earlier, we had a lot of cases such as kidnapping and robbery at sea. But since 2017 until now, we do not have any cases reported. This is the result of hard work and cooperation between all the enforcement agencies,” he added.
