Police completing investigation papers on maid abuse case

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The police are completing the investigation papers on the case of an Indonesian maid who died from suspected abuse by her employer at Taman Kota Permai 2, here last Sunday.

Penang police chief Datuk A Thaiveegan said the police believed the case could be resolved soon following the arrest of three members of a family aged 36, 39 and 60 in connection with the case.

“Investigations are still ongoing and the police have recorded at least 15 statements including from  witnesses, neighbours as well as doctors who treated the victim to complete the investigation papers.

“The police are also looking for few more witnesses to assist in the investigations and so far no new arrest has been made except for the trio who are the main suspects,” he told reporters after launching the Penang-level Op Selamat 12 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebrations at the Juru Toll Plaza here yesterday.

Adelina Lisio, 28, who suffered severe bodily injuries, died at 4.45pm on Sunday while receiving treatment at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital and her body was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem.

The woman was found at about 8pm on Saturday after the police received a report on the alleged abuse from a man, who is also an assistant to Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Lim.

Thaiveegan said the police were still investigating since when the maid was abused but did not rule out the possibility that it started several months ago based on her injuries.

He said the mother of two siblings, who was arrested Monday, had been remanded for seven days beginning today to facilitate investigations.

The 60-year-old woman was brought to the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court this morning while the remand order on her son and daughter would be extended, he added. — Bernama
