BINTULU: Investors involved in the development of NCR land for oil palm plantations are urged to set up an internal audit committee to protect their rights and that of the land owners.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who made the call, such committee would create a win-win situation for both investors and NCR land owners.

“The committee can prevent the occurrence of breach of trust and help to convince the NCR landowners to participate in such project,” said Uggah, who is also Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development.

He said this when witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Samling Oil Palm (Sangan) Sdn Bhd and Pelita Holdings Sdn Bhd to jointly develop Block B and C of NCR land in Ulu Anap, Tatau in Bintulu, at Parkcity Everly Hotel here yesterday.

Samling was represented by its managing director Tan Sri Yaw Teck Seng, and Pelita by its chief executive officer Dato Sajeli Kipli.

Uggah said the committee would also help to prevent dissatisfaction among the landowners, who expect better dividends.

Uggah thanked the people in the area for allowing their land  to be planted with oil palm, to ensure regular return for them in the long term.

Permanent secretary to the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datu Ik Pahon Joyik and Bintulu Resident Jack Aman Laut were also present at the signing ceremony.
