KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat yesterday inspected the retention wall erected along one stretch of the bank of Sungai Bletih at Kampung Muhibbah Bletih here.
He was accompanied by Assistant Minister of Agriculture Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, Agriculture Department (Commercial Crops) assistant director Dominic Chunggat, other government officers and community leaders.
The RM150,000 project under the Rural Transformation Programme was completed recently. The retention wall is built to prevent river bank erosion and to protect the houses nearby.
An owner of the house nearest to the river bank, Nurbaizura Abdullah, and her husband Zafari Amin expressed their sincere appreciation to Jamit for the retention wall.
“We would like to say a very big thank you to you YB because you listened to our plight and acted immediately to safeguard our homes. To erect this retention wall was the wish of our grandmother. If only she is still alive, she would be overjoyed. She passed away three years ago,” said Nurbaizura.
After the inspection, Jamit expressed satisfaction with the works done which were carried out in accordance with specification.
“I am pleased with the contractor for doing the job properly. The house owners are happy that this retention wall has been erected so they now can live in peace and need not to worry about any river bank erosion. As an elected representative, it is my responsibility to do my best to serve the people who supported me in the election,” said Jamit.
