KUCHING: Former SUPP president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam fully supports SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian’s effort to unite all Chinese in Sarawak in order to have a strong voice to further negotiate on the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

“If I am asked, I am willing to take the role to mediate between the various factions in the party (SUPP) and Opposition. So that the Chinese can be united in politics,” he said when met at his Chinese New Year Open House today.

Meanwhile, Dr Sim, at his own Open House, expressed his optimism that his party will win the maximum seven seats allocated to the party in the coming general election (GE14).

According to him, these seats will help to strengthen the state in negotiating for more of the state’s rights from Putrajaya.

Even though six out of the seven were lost to the Opposition in the last general election, he is optimistic that this time around his party can turn the table.

To achieve the target of winning the seven seats, he also welcomed the former party members who have joined the Opposition especially DAP to come back and “balik rumah” (rejoin the party) to strengthen and unite the party in tandem with the other communities who have been supporting the Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Sarawak need to win the maximum 31 seats it has in parliament to have better negotiating powers to get its right back that it lost in the past. We need to protect Sarawak interest,” he said, adding that SUPP has finalised the list of party’s candidate for GE14.
