SIBU: Poor weather was believed to have disrupted several inbound and outbound flights here this morning.

It was learned that two flights were cancelled in the morning, involving MASwings flight – Kuching/Sibu and Sibu/Bintulu.

According to SUPP Youth Central chairman Michael Tiang – he and the party deputy president II Chieng Buong Toon were supposed to be on the 8am’s Air Asia flight to Kuching, which was later retimed.

“We were supposed to attend the SUPP Open House in Kuching but had to cancel our trip at the last minute as our flight was retimed.

“The airline information counter only mentioned this (Air Asia’s flight retimed) was due to bad weather. However, I believe this may be due to thick fog during the morning,” he told The Borneo Post.

Tiang, who is also political secretary to chief minister, said: “All I know, the flight was delayed more than two hours by the time I left airport (this morning).”

When contacted, Malaysia Airport Sibu manager Zainuddin Abu Nasir said flight MH3690 Kuching/Sibu and MH3740 Sibu/Bintulu were cancelled.

He said as for MH3690 Kuching/Sibu – a total of 39 passengers had been arranged by airlines to be transfered to another connecting flight to their destination.

Zainuddin revealed that for MH3740 Sibu/Bintulu – 11 passengers had been transfered to another flight MH3184 Sibu/Bintulu/Kota Kinabalu, which departed at 11am.
