Police bust drug syndicate, RM1.4 million worth of drugs seized

SEMATAN: The General Operations Force (PGA) Sarawak Brigade has busted a drug syndicate on Chinese New Year’s eve (Thursday) after seizing RM1.4 million worth of drugs and arrested five foreigners at Kampung Telok Melano.

The brigade’s 11th Battalion commanding officer Supt Sar’ie Fauzi said all five suspects aged between 28 and 56 years old were detained following a search by ‘C Company’ led by Insp Nawinthan Selvaraja on the suspects at about 4.30pm.

He added all suspects were spotted acting suspiciously while making their way to the Malaysia-Indonesia border on three motorcyles.

“Further inspection on all the suspects’ sling bags, police found packages wrapped in aluminium foil containing crystal substance believed to be syabu weighing about 5.1 kilogramme with an estimated street value worth RM1.4 million,” said Sar’ie when contacted today.

All suspects were handed over to the Bau District Police Narcotic Crime Investigation Department for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

A press conference on the success is expected to be held on Monday.
