KUCHING: The Home Ministry is not amused with agent provocateurs of the extreme kind particularly when they ridiculed people over religion and race.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is also the Home Minister said the provocative artiste Namewee is lucky to escape punishment for his actions so far, but that he would get his comeuppance sooner or later.

“Do not blame the authorities if action is taken against him,” Zahid said.

The police are in the midst of investigating a report lodged against the controversial rapper (Namewee) for allegedly insulting Islam in his latest music video, Like a Dog.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun reportedly said an investigation paper has been opened on rapper Namewee’s video clip which allegedly rode roughshod on the sensitivities of the multi-racial society in the country.

He said the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) was working with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate the controversial video clip under Section 298 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

He said this after launching the Police Heritage Trust Fund Appeal Motorcycling Tour Programme in conjunction with the 211th Police Day at the Police Training Centre today.

Fuzi said as Namewee is not in the country, police would need to enlist MCMC’s help to track him down.

Social media activist Kamarudin Ahmad reportedly urged the MCMC to investigate the video clip, which he said showed dancers dressed provocatively near Putra Mosque in Putrajaya.

Yesterday, Namewee, whose real name is Wee Peng Chee, said the video, which was released to coincide with the Chinese New Year celebrations, is only for entertainment and that he has no intention of disrespecting any religion or race.

In the video, Namewee sings that dogs in different countries have different barks, and that while American dogs go “woof woof” and Indonesian dogs go “bow wow”, Malaysian dogs go “mari mari wang wang” (come come money money).

In the background are dancers in dog masks who move provocatively and scatter money to the beat of the music.

Namewee was also reported to have said that the video was shot by the side of a main road in Putrajaya.

“The scene that was featured in the music video was shot by a main road in Putrajaya.

“It was never my intention to insult any religion or race,” he said.
