DPM joins motorcycle convoy to raise funds for police welfare

TANJONG  KARANG: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday joined the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) high-powered motorcycle convoy from here to Sungai Besar to raise funds for the Police Heritage Trust Fund.

The 70-member convoy led by Bukit  Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah, was also participated by Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Tan Sri Noh Omar.

From Sungai Besar, the bikers would proceed to Hutan Melintang, Perak.

Tanjong Karang was their first stop after departing from the Police Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur yesterday morning.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Home Affairs Minister, received donations of RM134,000 collected at the first two stops  (Tanjung Karang and Sungai Besar) including personal contributions from Noh, who is the Tanjong Karang Member of Parliament.

Meanwhile, Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor in his speech said the three-day motorcycle convoy from Kuala Lumpur would travel through the states of  Selangor, Perak, Pahang before ending the journey in Negeri Sembilan.

He said the programme was aimed at raising funds for the welfare of police retirees and their family members, as well as at bringing the police closer to the people.

Besides, he said it was also hoped to enhance public awareness on the sacrifices and contributions of the security forces in ensuring public order and safeguarding the country.

Noh, on the other hand, said he had approved an allocation of RM1.6 million to repair the Tanjong Karang police quarters to the benefit of the police personnel.

“We need to appreciate the deeds of PDRM personnel who have been ensuring peace and security in the country,” he said.

TAWP is a trust fund set up by the government through a trust instrument on Sept 14, 1992 and operates in accordance with the provisions of Section 37 of the Trustee Act 1949 established to assist retired officers and policemen including their families in matters of welfare. — Bernama
