Head of State, wife make CNY visits to local dignitaries

KUCHING: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib visited the homes of several local dignitaries here on the first day of Chinese New Year.

The first visit was to the residence of Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) president Dato Patrick Liew at Jalan Kepayang here.

The couple then proceeded to the residence of Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian at Jalan Wan Abdul Rahman.

Taib and Raghad then visited the CNY open house of corporate figure Dato Steve Ng and also State Legal Counsel Dato Sri JC Fong, both at Jalan Bampfylde, after which they proceeded to the home of Australian Business Centre director Rodger Chan.

The final home they visited was the residence of former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan at Jalan Siol Kanan, Petra Jaya.

At each residence, Taib and his entourage were invited to toss the ‘yee sang’.

There were also special lion dance performances.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Assistant Minister of E-Commerce Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais accompanied the Head of State during the visits.
