SIBU: Snooker entrepreneur Elvis Wong is staging the Sarikei Open Championship to be held at Sarikei  Kelab Cue Repok from March 9-13.

“All Sarawakians are welcome,” he said, adding that it is rare opportunity for snooker enthusiasts in Sarikei to see all the top players in the state in action.

Earlier this year, Wong organised the 2nd edition of Sarikei Closed Championship which attracted 28 players.

He revealed that the idea to stage the Sarikei Open was hatched in 2016 and he has been working very hard with his committee members to stage it.

The cash prizes are RM2,000 (champion), RNM1,000 (runner-up), RM500 for losing semi-finalists and RM200 for losing quarter-finalists.

A century breaker will bag RM500.

The tournament will be played on a single knockout basis for the best of five frames and the best of seven frames in the final.

Entry fee is RM50 per person and the closing date is on March 2.
