Firemen break into the car to get the driver out.

SIBU: A clerk with the Traffic Unit of the Sungai Merah police station drowned after being trapped inside her car when it plunged into a water-filled monsoon drain by the roadside yesterday.

Flora Nuing was driving home to Sibu Jaya after work at 4.20pm when her car skidded in heavy rain at Mile 8, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and plunged into the drain, trapping her inside.

The woman, in her 20s, was unable to get out of the car and drowned.

Fire and Rescue Department personnel arrived at the scene and broke the wind screen to pull out the deceased.

It was initially thought that Flora had a baby with her in the car.

However, the rescuers later confirmed that she was travelling alone.

Flora’s remains were brought to the hospital mortuary for a post mortem.
