KUALA LUMPUR: Private education provider Minda Global Bhd expects to develop new programmes to expand the group’s study disciplines and improve student intake growth.

The company, which made its debut on Bursa Malaysia yesterday by taking over the listing status of Asiamet Education Group Bhd (AEGB), also plans to relocate the recently-acquired Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) to a new purpose-built campus by mid-2018, it said in a statement.

Minda Global director Tan Sri Dr R Palan said the move would double the university’s current capacity, while providing world-class student experiences and enhancing teaching and learning infrastructure. Based on the company’s circular to shareholders, the new campus can accommodate about 8,000 students.

“With CUCMS, we have a five-star university with a very focused line-up of programmes. Asia Metropolitan University and its related colleges on the other hand, provide a wider geographical footprint, and ability to develop a broad suite of programmes tailored to the needs of different local communities.

“We have a larger group, strong institutional synergy, new board members with strong reputation and a new senior management team. With these elements in place, we are well positioned to face the challenges of the industry,” Palan said.

The Minda Global group caters to over 5,000 students comprising about 35 nationalities and its international school is fully licensed by the Ministry of Education.

Minda Global opened at 21.5 sen on its debut on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia yesterday.

The company took over AEGB’s listing status through a 1-for-1 share exchange arrangement with existing shareholders.
