KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department (SHD) has confirmed the authenticity of a circular issued by the Samarahan Division Health Office to all clinics in Samarahan division to conduct a thorough examination of any case with clinical signs of suspected Hepatitis A disease from Kota Samarahan.

Its director Dr Jamilah Hashim said the circular dated Feb 17, which has gone viral in social media, was in relation to the epidemic of Hepatitis A involving two cases in Kampung Asajaya Laut.

“Both cases have been treated at private hospitals as outpatients,” she said in a statement today.

In this regard, Dr Jamilah pointed out that SHD is currently conducting ongoing activities such as close monitoring of reports from both public and private clinics and hospitals.

Apart from that, she disclosed that the department had also conducted a water quality test in the area and found it compliant with the standards set by the Ministry of Health.

“SHD and the involved agencies will continue to control measures in water quality monitored by water treatment plants.

“However, the public are advised to cook their water even if the water supply at home is filtered.”
