MIRI: A five-year-old girl was among the 31 Indonesians arrested for being in the country illegally during two operations here on Tuesday.

In a press statement yesterday, General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 12 commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng said the operations were conducted at a construction site in Senadin and a substation site in Tudan.

“Initially 54 people were checked during the operations at the two locations, but only 31 were found to have violated the Immigration Act.

“Out of the 31 people arrested, 24 were men, while seven were women including a five-year-old girl,” he said.

Ten of those arrested had overstayed and are being detained under Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), while 12 were arrested under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country without valid documents.

“The remaining nine others were detained under Rule 39 (b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating their social visit pass,” Tan said.

He added the team also arrested a 27-year-old local man, who is an employer at the substation site.

All the Indonesians arrested were brought to the Bekenu Immigration Depot for further investigation.
